At one point, Stoke-On-Trent was home to 4,000 Kilns. Now only 47 remain standing, with more likely to collapse this winter due to poor maintenance. To preserve the legacy of these monolithic structures, Mitchell created the Kiln Vase as tribute to the fading pottery industry in his hometown.
